Learn to Play Program in Partnership with the NHL, NHLPA & USA Hockey
Continue, or start, your child’s hockey journey in a fun, welcoming, and low-pressure environment. Try Laker Hockey is the perfect first step for kids ages 5 to 10, whether they're brand new to skating or already comfortable on the ice. This revamped program is part of the NHL's Learn to Play initiative, designed to make hockey more accessible for families by providing equipment, coaching, and a structured path into the sport.

NEW this year, we are partnering with the City of Watertown to support a new Watertown Hockey Club that will practice and play locally and support the development of hockey in Watertown.
Players at all league levels who wish to play in a non-travel club are welcome to register for this new opportunity.
Registration for the 2025-2026 Lakers Hockey League is now open!
This is a travel hockey league for players ages 7-18, playing teams around the state of South Dakota and participating in 1-2 tournaments in neighboring markets. Players will have the opportunity to improve their hockey skills and play at a competitive level that will prepare them for opportunities beyond high school, not just in hockey, but all pursuits, with character-building and life skills training. We encourage new and returning members to read all materials before registering for Lakers Hockey. New families should also check out our frequently asked questions under the parents tab for important information.

WHA is a parent-run organization that depends on the volunteer efforts of hundreds of people and thousands of hours to cover operational costs, while maintaining low player registration fees. It is very important that all participants take on responsibility and share the necessary duties. To ensure that all parents of youth hockey players are involved in the program, WHA has developed a Watertown Hockey Association Volunteer Points Agreement. Please review the policy before registering. Any questions may be sent to businessmgr@watertownlakers.org.
The Watertown Hockey Association is proud to partner with the Laker Foundation to provide scholarships for qualifying families. You can find more information regarding the scholarship program at:
